The client approached us about designing a new house after being dissatisfied with speculative homes they had seen. They intended to stay in their new home for a lifetime, and wanted to build something that would last and nurture their family as it grew.
A focus on long term durability and energy efficiency led to the choice of insulated concrete form construction. Large windows flood the interior space with natural light. Sustainable finishes were selected inside and out. Building systems include a solar thermal hot water system, and geothermal for heating and cooling. A green roof enhances views of downtown Chicago, while managing storm water.
The home is Energy Star Certified with a HERS rating of 41. It achieves 3-stars in the Chicago Green Home Program, and is registered for LEED certification.
